Philly Vacation – Part 1

This past weekend my wife and I were in Philly visiting a friend. Obviously this turned into an excuse to take lots of photographs, and I wanted to share some of my favorites.

One of the things I was focusing on this trip was to make sure that the sky was exposed correctly.  This can have a surprising impact on your shots. When you expose for the buildings the sky can look bright white and blown out which makes the overall picture less interesting.

On our first day we mostly wandered around Center City and eventually found this gem of a spot outside City Hall Station. There are water fountains that run throughout the day creating gorgeous reflections when they’re off. What I especially love about this spot are the paths in the fountain that allow pedestrian traffic to walk through the fountain even when it’s on. It also has the added benefit of creating leading lines to draw your eye through the image.
