Originally, last weeks post was going to be my last from the balloon festival, but I really liked how this photo came out and wanted to show it off.
The photo below is from the sunset launch on the first day of the festival. It was very much an unplanned shot. I was busily taking photos of balloons preparing to launch when I looked up and noticed one of them was already up in the air and almost directly over me.
I had my wide angle lens on at the time so was able get a lot of sky in the shot.

I’ve enjoyed all your balloon shots, with your interesting angles. With this photogenic balloon, I like the bright colours and pattern, and the touch of “op-art” effect you got in this shot. 🙂 I like that you have extra sky on the left to give space and a feeling of movement. When I “cropped” your image with my hand on the screen, closing in more on the balloon itself, the effect was definitely more static, like a still life of a balloon. Now I want to go for a balloon ride in the big blue sky! 🙂

I think some of the best photos are unplanned. They are beautiful little surprises when you develop the film or slowly go back through them if your camera is a digital.

I agree with Arlene. The joy of photography is to just put yourself in the right place/moment and you never know what you’ll get, if you’re ready. I’ve missed some great photo opts by not having my camera with me at that moment.

That’s one of the reasons I always have my camera with me. Can’t miss a shot if you’re always ready. 🙂
